What is Around ?

As Melisa Pansiyon, touristic and suitable places around us are listed here. Free and free activities that you can do around us are listed below.

Butterfly Valley

Butterfly Valley is a natural treasure within the borders of the town of Faralya. Surrounded by steep rocky walls reaching around 350 meters, the valley has taken its name from large number of species of butterflies, which made a home here. A small waterfall spill into the valley at a height of around 50 meters, reaches the Mediterranean with a stream passing through the middle of the valley. The valley has been well protected from the outside world due to the isolation of the sea by the steep cliffs surrounding it.
This may be the main reason why the valley’s butterfly population is a variety. Although some species are not endemic to the valley, it is exciting to see them in the watery and snug places of the Mediterranean as well as in the waterfalls of the valley and along the stream.
The valley was used as a pier of the town of Perdikya (Faralya) in Lycian time. Since the Byzantium times, it was used as homestead, church, retaining wall etc.
Where the wide end of the high rocky walls meets the sea there is a beautiful sandy beach and bungalow accommodation in the valley. Although it is not an easy climb down and back up again, it is worth a day trip or staying over.
To access the Valley, you can either take public or private boat from Ölüdeniz or come over land with public minibuses to the top of the Valley and hike down to the beach (see “How to Get There” section). As it takes time to climb down and up, you should allow plenty time for the visit and refrain from going down late afternoon thinking that you will be back before it is dark. It is also important that you have appropriate sturdy walking shoes (definitely refrain from going down with your slippers).

Aktaş Beach

There is a beach here, partly rocky and partly pebbles, down the hills called Aktaş Beach, a pleasant place to relax and swim. On one side it has a long rocky area and the other side a beach with some sand and pebbles.  Aktas, meaning white rocks, has a restaurant and small bungalow accommodation. You can camp here renting a tent or using your own tent.
Along the rocky beach to the south, you will reach a small cove called Sömbeki. It is also possible to swim in this rather peaceful cove surrounded by colorful limestone rocks. Sömbeki cove is on the local network of trails called Fethiye Alternative Walking Trails. Walking this trail along the coast to the south will take you to Kabak area.

Kabak Beach

Located south of the Butterfly Valley, Kabak Bay has a beach in a protected area surrounded by mountains, and a natural beauty that hosts a number of endemic plant and animal species.
The main attraction is going down to the perfect beach of Kabak, where you can experience an ecological life in tents, bungalows or tree houses, and you can witness the full moonlit nights, which can only be encountered in the rare places of the world.
Walking short trails in the valley and along the surrounding mountains would definitely make you feel the unique beauty of this land. Walking up, you will reach Aladere waterfalls and several pools – ideal for hot summer day dip. Please see trekking section for more details on how to reach Aladere waterfalls and pools.
Kabak essentially have two sections. At the end and along the asphalt road, there are residences of locals living there. Restaurants, yoga retreats, and accommodation as guest houses and bungalow camps are spread around the slopes and down the beach.
Kabak Bay from the Butterfly Valley can be reached by walking, minibuses or private cars along the asphalt road to the south connecting three location of Faralya. When you come to Kabak which is the last stop (the road basically ends there) the beach can be reached by walking down the yellow & red way-marked trail. It is also accessible via the dirt road that is part of the Lycian Way. Additionally, there is a paid minibus service. Private cars are not allowed as the road goes through private land.

Kıdrak Beach

The first sight of Faralya, Kıdrak, will welcome you as early as a couple of kilo meters to the south of Ölüdeniz beach. There is a white sand beach here and, at the back of it, a valley with a rich nature.  The beach has a crystal clear and wavy sea – on of the most beautiful around Fethiye region. It is also generally much less crowded than the Ölüdeniz beach.

Beautiful rocky mountains rise up above the beach. Under these rocks  the stream of the cold water flows into the sea at this point. You would feel the cooling water when you swim especially to the north of the beach.

There a few houses belonging to one family and There is a relaxing motel that you can spend the night in the valley (Kıdrak Motel). If you are after some more luxury accommodation,  Likya Liberty Hotels is a resort at the south, next to the Kıdrak beach.

The Lycian Way

According to the Sunday Times the Lycian Way in Turkey is one of the ten most beautiful long distance hikes of the world. The Lycian Way route is graded medium to hard; it is not level walking on the Lycian Way, but has many ascents and descents as it approaches and veers away from the sea. The Lycian Way is easier at the start near Fethiye and Faralya and gets more difficult as it progresses. We recommend walking the Lycian Way route in spring or autumn; February-May or September-November; although you could walk short, shady sections. The Lycian Way route is mainly over footpaths and mule trails; it is mostly over limestone and often hard and stony underfoot. On the first part of the Lycian Way, and in Faralya, Patara, Kalkan, Kas, Myra, Finike, Adrasan, Olympos, Cirali and Tekirova, you can stay in pensions or small hotels on the Lycian Way. On other nights, you may stay in a village house, or camp out. There are plenty of camping places on the Lycian Way route with nearby water mentioned in the book; you do not have to ask permission to camp out.
